Cardiac
arrest is a condition in which the blood suddenly stops circulating
throughout the body. Heart failure is a common cause. Without
continuous blood supply, body tissues are starved for the
oxygen and nutrients they need to function, and may sustain
damage. If circulation is not restored (e.g. by resuscitation),
brain damage and death follow within a few minutes.
