The
basal ganglia are a group of structures located deep inside
the brain, including the caudate nuclei, lentiform nuclei,
amygdala,
and claustrum. The basal ganglia play a role in voluntary
movement, and also play a role in some kinds of non-motor
learning. Damage or disruption to the basal ganglia (as in
Parkinson's
disease or
Huntington's disease) can cause motor symptoms such as
tremor
or difficulty initiating movement.
