Memory: From Mind to Molecules, by Larry Squire and Eric Kandel. (New York: Scientific American Library, 2000). Larry Squire and Eric Kandel are two of the scientists at the forefront of memory research. They have produced a very readable book which explains some of the most important concepts of how memory works -- including memory disorders such as amnesia.
