Antioxidant

Antioxidants are substances which help protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals, by breaking them down into harmless components or by preventing them from attacking cells.

Vitamins A, C and E are antioxidant substances normally found in a healthy diet. Estrogen also has antioxidant properties. Antioxidant drugs are being investigated as possible treatments for cancer, to reduce the effects of aging, and to help prevent or treat stroke.
