The
hypothalamus is an area of the brain that helps control various
body functions such as regulating body temperature, controlling
hunger and thirst, and secreting and releasing various hormones.
It is important in the body's response to stress,
as it releases a particular hormone
(corticotropin-releasing factor or CRF) that starts a procession
of events culminating in the body's response to stress: the
"fight-or-flight" response.
