Hemoglobin
is the component of blood
that makes blood appear red. Hemoglobin carries oxygen from
the lungs to the tissues of the body. In
carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, CO molecules bind to hemoglobin,
displacing the oxygen molecules, and depriving the body of
its ability to distribute oxygen, resulting in hypoxia.
